Names for EIFS

EIFS is also known as synthetic stucco, EFIS, and 'dryvit'.

EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finish System) is a non-load bearing exterior wall cladding system that provides exterior walls with an thermal insulation and a finished surface with water-resistance. EIFS Cladding Systems offer a water-resistant barrier, design flexibility, great aesthetic/curb appeal, dirt resistance, durability, and substantial energy savings.

EIFS Application - EIFS is typically installed directly over sheathing such as plywood, gypsum board, glass-mat sheathing (or densglass) or masonry surfaces such as cmu, brick, concrete, or AAC (autoclaved aerated concrete). Typical assembly includes adhesive or mechanical attachment of insulation (EPS foam, or polystyrene), basecoat, mesh (embedded in basecoat), and finish coat. (Standard Finishes only require one coat while custom textures may require multiple layers of finish coats.)

Types of EIFS Systems - There are many types of 'EIFS' systems with different advantages and as well as disadvantages. Below are some of the most commonly used EIFS Systems across North America.

Standard EIFS Systems (Traditional EIFS or Conventional EIFS)

Water-Managed EIFS Systems (Drainage EIFS, EIFS with Drainage, Drainable EIFS)
